The Tradition of Marseille Soap – Reinvented for Today

Marseille soap has been crafted in Provence for centuries, dating back to Roman times. Traditionally made with olive oil and formed into the iconic green or white cubes, this legendary soap became a household essential across France and beyond. The method has remained largely unchanged—boiled in giant cauldrons and made with natural plant oils, without synthetic additives.

At Soapyard, we honor this rich history but have reimagined the Marseille soap for modern tastes. Our bars are not the same as the rustic cubes of old—though we can supply those too. Instead, we offer a refined formula based on the established recipes of traditional Provençal savonnettes—the everyday soaps found in French markets. While we don’t create the formula ourselves, we have designed a unique shape and style that makes our bars stand out.

Our soaps are not mass-produced but crafted by an established, family-run company of artisan savonniers in the Marseille region of Provence. With generations of expertise, they use time-honored techniques to create high-quality bars that reflect both tradition and innovation.

Unlike industrial soaps, we never use parabens, SLS, or harsh detergents—but our focus isn’t just on being “green.” We want people to love using our soap because it feels amazing, smells incredible, and lasts longer than liquid alternatives. Our bars are designed to convert even those who wouldn’t normally think about ditching plastic bottles—because a great soap speaks for itself.

A modern take on a timeless tradition—crafted in Provence, designed for today.
