At Soapyard, we believe that great skincare shouldn’t come at the cost of the planet. Our packaging is designed with a minimum waste ethos, ensuring that every element is either reusable, recyclable, or biodegradable. Our naked bars are wrapped in simple, non-wax greaseproof paper—free from unnecessary plastics—while our reusable aluminum travel tins offer a practical, zero-waste solution for storing soap on the go. Ingredients

Our Ingredients

At Soapyard, we believe in full transparency when it comes to what goes into our soaps. We carefully select each ingredient for its quality, effectiveness, and skin benefits. Below, you’ll find a breakdown of the key ingredients we use, their origins, and why they’re in our soaps.

Key Ingredients in Our Soaps

🌿 Sodium Palmate & Sodium Palm Kernelate (Palm Oil & Palm Kernel Oil)

Origin: Extracted from the fruit and kernel of the palm tree.

Purpose: These natural plant-based oils provide the soap’s structure, create a creamy, stable lather, and offer gentle cleansing without drying out the skin.

Sustainability: We only use responsibly sourced, RSPO-certified palm oil to ensure sustainable and ethical production.

💧 Aqua (Water)

Origin: Purified water.

Purpose: Essential for the soap-making process (saponification) and helps blend the ingredients into a smooth bar.

🌿 Palm Kernel Acid

Origin: Derived from palm kernel oil.

Purpose: Enhances the soap’s foaming properties, creating a rich and luxurious lather.

🧂 Sodium Chloride (Salt)

Origin: Natural sea salt or mineral salt.

Purpose: Helps harden the soap bar, making it last longer, while also gently cleansing and detoxifying the skin.

🌿 Glycerin

Origin: A natural byproduct of the soap-making process, derived from plant oils.

Purpose: A powerful humectant that draws moisture into the skin, keeping it soft and hydrated. Unlike many commercial soaps, we never remove the natural glycerin, ensuring our soaps nourish rather than dry out your skin.

🥑 Butyrospermum Parkii (Organic Shea Butter)

Origin: Extracted from the nuts of the shea tree in Africa.

Purpose: Deeply moisturizes, soothes dry skin, and helps maintain skin elasticity. Rich in vitamins A and E, shea butter provides natural nourishment and protection.

🫒 Olea Europaea (Olive Oil)

Origin: Cold-pressed from olives, mainly from the Mediterranean region.

Purpose: A gentle and nourishing oil, olive oil is rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids, helping to protect, hydrate, and soften the skin. Used in traditional French and Mediterranean soap-making for centuries.

🌰 Argania Spinosa (Argan Oil)

Origin: Extracted from the kernels of the argan tree, native to Morocco.

Purpose: Known as ‘liquid gold,’ argan oil is packed with vitamin E and fatty acids, making it an excellent skin conditioner. It helps soften, repair, and hydrate without clogging pores.

🌿 Laurus Nobilis (Laurel Oil)

Origin: Pressed from the berries of the laurel tree, used in traditional Aleppo soap.

Purpose: Naturally antibacterial, laurel oil helps cleanse deeply while soothing sensitive or problem-prone skin. It’s particularly beneficial for people with dry, itchy, or irritated skin.

🌸 Parfum (Fragrance) – Natural Perfumes from Grasse

Origin: Expertly crafted in Grasse, France—the world’s perfume capital.

Purpose: Adds a delicate, long-lasting fragrance to the soap, enhancing the sensory experience. We use high-quality fragrances, some of which contain essential oils.

🌿 Tetrasodium EDTA & Tetrasodium Etidronate

Origin: Safe, food-grade stabilizers.

Purpose: These ingredients help prevent soap from going rancid, ensure a long shelf life, and keep the soap firm even in hard water. They also help maintain the bar’s smooth texture.

🌼 Natural Colorants (CI 12490, CI 60730, CI 12085, CI 58000)

Origin: Skin-safe mineral pigments and natural dyes.

Purpose: Provide beautiful, vibrant colors to the soap without affecting its skin-friendly properties. Unlike some mass-produced soaps, we avoid synthetic or harsh colorants.

Additional Ingredients in Some Variants

🌿 Essential Oils (Geraniol, Citronellol, Linalool, Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Salicylate)

Origin: Derived from natural plant extracts such as rose, jasmine, and citrus oils.

Purpose: These compounds occur naturally in essential oils and contribute to the soap’s fragrance. Many also have skin-soothing and aromatherapeutic properties.

What We DON’T Use

No parabens

No sulfates (SLS, SLES)

No synthetic detergents

No artificial preservatives

No silicones or petrochemicals

No harsh foaming agents

We believe soap should be simple, effective, and natural—made with high-quality ingredients that cleanse and nourish your skin without unnecessary additives.

Fragrance

Our Fragrances: Inspired by the Perfume Capital of the World

At Soapyard, we take fragrance seriously. Every scent in our soaps is carefully crafted in Grasse, Provence—the legendary capital of perfume. Nestled between the Mediterranean coast and the rolling hills of southern France, Grasse has been the heart of fine fragrance for centuries, producing the world’s most exquisite scents.

A Legacy of Perfumery

Grasse’s history as a perfume-making hub dates back to the 16th century when local artisans began infusing oils with the region’s abundant flowers. Today, it remains the global center for luxury fragrance creation, supplying the world’s finest perfume houses with rare and precious ingredients. Many of the world’s most famous perfumes—including those from Chanel, Dior, and Guerlain—have their origins in Grasse.

The Finest Ingredients

The region’s unique microclimate, with its mild winters and sun-drenched summers, creates the perfect conditions for cultivating the most fragrant botanicals, including:

🌸 Jasmine – Soft, floral, and slightly sweet, harvested at dawn for the purest scent.

🌹 Rose de Mai – A rare, delicate rose prized for its rich and romantic aroma.

🌿 Lavender – Classic, soothing, and unmistakably Provençal.

🍋 Citrus Blossoms – Fresh, bright, and uplifting, capturing the Mediterranean air.

Crafted by Experts

We work with master perfumers in Grasse to develop our exclusive scents, ensuring each soap carries an authentic French fragrance experience. Whether it’s the comforting warmth of shea and vanilla, the fresh zest of lemon verbena, or the floral elegance of rose and jasmine, our scents are timeless, refined, and crafted to last.

The Essence of Provence in Every Bar

By sourcing our fragrances from Grasse, we honor centuries of French craftsmanship and tradition. Every time you use a Soapyard soap, you’re indulging in a small piece of Provençal luxury—a scent story steeped in history and made with the finest natural ingredients.

Our Ethos: Tradition, Craftsmanship, and Sustainability

Our Ethos: Tradition, Craftsmanship, and Sustainability

At Soapyard, we take pride in offering authentic, artisan-crafted French soaps that uphold time-honoured traditions while embracing modern sustainability. Our bars are made in Europe by a family-run company of skilled artisans, with each soap undergoing over ten meticulous production steps to achieve the perfect texture, fragrance, and quality. While some of our raw materials, such as palm and coconut oils, are sourced from tropical regions, the entire soap-making process takes place in a workshop between Marseille and Aubagne. This ensures that every bar is crafted according to the rich heritage of French soap-making, maintaining exceptional standards of quality and authenticity.

Commitment to Quality and Transparency

We believe in full transparency about the ingredients and production methods. While the company of savonnier we use does not hold organic certification—largely because it is seen as a marketing tool rather than a true mark of quality—they are committed to responsible sourcing and sustainable practices.

Our soaps contain a minimum of 95% natural ingredients, with some reaching up to 99% or even 100% natural composition. High-quality essential oils, clays, and organic shea butter are used to enrich the formulas, ensuring they are both nourishing and effective.

The Origin of Our Ingredients

The savonnier's commitment to quality means carefully selecting each ingredient based on its benefits:

Shea Butter (Organic) – Sourced from Africa, this deeply moisturizing butter is known for its skin-soothing and nourishing properties.

Olive Oil – Harvested from France and the Mediterranean basin, this rich oil provides hydration and antioxidants for healthy skin.

Argan Oil – Native to Morocco, argan oil is prized for its anti-aging and regenerative properties.

Laurel Oil – Traditionally used in Aleppo soaps, laurel oil is valued for its antibacterial and soothing effects.

Coconut and Palm Oils – Essential for creating a long-lasting, creamy lather, these oils are responsibly sourced from tropical regions.

Using raw materials from different regions does not diminish the authenticity of our soaps. Just as a French bakery might use imported flour or a carpenter may work with exotic woods, our Marseille-made soaps remain true to their heritage, regardless of ingredient origin.

Fragrances: A Tribute to Grasse, the Perfume Capital

Our scents are carefully selected from Grasse, the world-renowned perfume capital of Provence. Known for its centuries-old expertise in fragrance production, Grasse is synonymous with quality and luxury in the perfume industry. Each Soapyard bar carries a sophisticated and long-lasting fragrance, bringing a touch of Provence into every wash.

Eco-Friendly and Sustainable Choices

Using solid soap over liquid alternatives is a simple yet impactful way to reduce plastic waste. Unlike bottled body washes, our soaps require minimal packaging and eliminate the need for single-use plastics. We also take additional steps to minimize our environmental footprint by:

Recycling cardboard packaging and reducing unnecessary waste.

Sourcing from eco-conscious suppliers

Gentle and Skin-Friendly Formulas

A common misconception is that bar soap is harsher than shower gels, but the reality is quite different. Most liquid body washes contain large amounts of water, diluting their effects. In contrast, our solid soaps are enriched with organic shea butter and high-quality plant oils to keep skin soft and hydrated. For those with sensitive skin, we offer variants infused with olive oil, argan oil, wheat germ oil, or donkey milk, all known for their soothing properties.

Authentic Artisan Craftsmanship

Our soaps are made using semi-automatic machines that still require human expertise, ensuring a consistently high standard. This artisanal approach has earned us official recognition from the Chambre de Métier et de l’Artisanat des Bouches-du-Rhône, where we are registered under the artisan trade directory.

Transparency and Continuous Improvement

We are committed to honesty and continuous growth. While we do not claim perfection, we actively work towards improving our processes and reducing our environmental impact. By choosing Soapyard, you support a brand that values tradition, quality, and sustainability, all while delivering a beautiful, luxurious product.
